Fujian and Europe Share Experience in Heritage Protection

Fujian-European Sister Cities Seminar on Heritage Protection and Dialogue was held online on June 30.

The seminar brought together officials and heritage experts from Fujian, Europe, and UNESCO Office in Beijing.

In the opening remarks, Vice Governor Guo Ningning introduced Fujian’s progress in natural and cultural heritage preservation, and proposed more cooperation in publicity, digitization and professional exchanges for cultural heritage.

V.V.Timofeev, Deputy Head of Karelia, Russia, shared the preservation work of world heritage sites on Kizhi Island, including the Church of the Transfiguration, and recalled the cooperation between Kizhi museum and Mount Wuyi national park.

Dragana Milošević, Provincial Secretary for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Serbia, began her remarks by thanking China’s support for Serbia’s fight against COVID-19. She also gave a detailed presentation of the cultural heritage in Vojvodina.

Himalchuli Gurung, Programme Specialist for Culture of UNESCO Office in Beijing, highlighted Fujian’s four world heritage sites and intangible cultural heritage such as Fujian puppetry, and marked China’s contribution to World Heritage Convention and its lasting efforts in heritage conservation.

In the second half of the seminar, experts from the Normandy Region of France, Liege Province of Belgium, the Region of Marches of Italy, San Marino, City of Wroclaw of Poland and Fujian shared their experience and practice in world heritage preservation.
