The 18th of June witnessed successful convening of the 2021 SCO International Round Table in Lianyungang under the auspices of the SCO Secretariat and Lianyungang Municipal People’s Government. The event gathered together the SCO Secretariat and relevant officials with SCO member states, observer countries and dialogue partner countries participating in-person or online via video links. Vladimir Norov, Secretary-General of the SCO Secretariat, and Hui Jianlin, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, attended the event and delivered remarks respectively.
Themed with “enhancing international cooperation in economy and trade, and promoting facilitation in merchandise exports and imports among SCO members”, the event focused on practical demand of the SCO for scaling up international industrial cooperation and developing trade in distinctive products as well as its long-term development needs, identified new trends and problems, and explored new policies and solutions, in an effort to foster an international logistics partnership based on mutual respect, mutual support and win-win cooperation.
Representatives present at the round table exchanged views over the current circumstances and prospects of strengthening international economic and trade cooperation and making concerted efforts to streamline import and export process within the SCO framework, and reached consensus on SCO cooperation in such fields as trade, agriculture, grain safety, logistics and transportation. They reaffirmed commitment to prioritizing the fulfillment of tasks and goals that had been pinned down during the virtual meeting of SCO Council of Heads of Government in 2020.
