In May, Jiangsu’s air transport continued to sustain a stable recovery with the cumulative growth rate maintaining the first in Eastern China for three months running. The monthly international cargo and mail throughput reported by Nanjing Lukou International Airport had for the first time topped 10,000 tons. The first international all-cargo flight route of Huai’an Lianshui Airport was opened successfully.
From January to May, the nine airports across the province registered a total passenger throughput of 19.856 million, an increase of 87.2% year-on-year, and equivalent to 85.3% of the same period in 2019. Among others, Sunan Shuofang International Airport reported a cumulative passenger throughput that approached the level of the same period in 2019 and for Xuzhou Guanyin Airport and Yangzhou-Taizhou Airport, the figure surpassed that of the same period in 2019. In early May, driven by the Labor Day holiday, flight implementation rate at airports across the province was maintained at a high level, and the passenger throughput increased markedly from the previous month, with an average daily passenger flow of nearly 160,000. In mid and late May, bad weather and epidemic resurgence in Guangdong and other relevant regions led to a decline in flight implementation rate and passenger flow.
The first five months of 2021 saw a total cargo and mail throughput of 294,000 tons completed by nine airports in the province, up by 21.7% year-on-year, and an increase of 22.1% compared with the same period of 2019. The international and regional cargo and mail throughput hit 51,000 tons, up by 36.2% year-on-year, an increase of 27.5% over the same period of 2019, of which 12,000 tons was completed in May alone, another single-month high.
