16 Jiangsu projects recognized as national “intangible cultural heritage”

In recent days, the State Council has issued the Notice on Publishing the Fifth Batch of Representative Projects of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, announcing the fifth batch of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage which totals 185 items and an extended list of 140 projects, into which 16 projects of Jiangsu have been shortlisted, involving such categories as traditional music, traditional dance, Chinese operas, and traditional fine art.

The fifth batch of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage include the Nanzha Folk Songs in Huai’an District of Huai’an City (traditional music category), the Taixing Drum in Taixing City (traditional dance category), the North Jiangsu Drum in Sucheng District of Suqian City (Chinese operas category), the hair embroidery in Dongtai City (Dongtai Hair Embroidery) (traditional fine art category), the crystal carving in Donghai County (Donghai Crystal Carving) (traditional fine art category), the porcelain engraving in Dafeng District of Yancheng City (Dafeng Porcelain Engraving) (traditional fine art category), the powder making skill in Yangzhou (Xie Fuchun Powder Making Skill) (traditional skills category), and the Xuzhou Fuyang Gourmet Custom in Xuzhou (folk customs category).

In the extended list of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects, one can find the Hailing stone dumbbell game in Hailing District of Taizhou City (Hailing Stone Dumbbell Game) (traditional sports, amusement, acrobatics category), the Su embroidery in Changzhou City (Changzhou Chaotic Stitch Embroidery) (traditional fine art category), the carpet weaving skill in Rugao (Rugao Silk Carpet Weaving Skill) (traditional skills category), the traditional skill for making distilled liquor in Suqian City (Yanghe Liquor Making Skill) (traditional skills category), the green tea making skill in Nanjing City (Yuhua Tea Making Skill) (traditional skills category), the vegetarian food making skill in Nanjing City (Lyuliuju Vegetarian Food Making Skill) (traditional skills category), the traditional Chinese medicine preparation method in Nantong City (Wangshi Bao Chi Wan Preparation Skill) (traditional medicine category), and the temple fair (Shengtang Temple Fair) in Xiangcheng District of Suzhou City.
