Jiangsu initiated traditional skills competition

On June 2, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security announced the official opening of the 2021 Jiangsu Traditional Skills Competition. The event was co-sponsored by the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, the Communist Youth League Jiangsu Provincial Committee, the Provincial Women’s Federation and Yangzhou Municipal People’s Government. Skilled personnel at or above the age of 18 who have been living in Jiangsu and working in related industries for more than three years can sign up for the competition online before the end of June.

There are ten events in the competition, namely ceramic carving, embroidery, jade carving, crystal carving, mahogany carving, paper cutting (carving), tea ceremony, bonsai making, pedicure and cooking. The main venue of the finals will be in Yangzhou, where the finals of embroidery, jade carving, mahogany carving, paper cutting (carving), tea ceremony, pedicure and cooking will be held. Sub-venues in Yixing City, Rugao City, and Donghai County will hold the finals of ceramic carving, bonsai making, and crystal carving.

First prize winners will be conferred the honorary title of Jiangsu Master of Traditional Skills and directly become applicants for Jiangsu Craftsman, after which the qualified will enjoy priority in establishing their own studio. After the assessment by the evaluation committee for high-caliber professionals in urgent need, the qualified will get promotion in professional titles. The top six on-the-job contestants of the finals of each event will be awarded honorary titles by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security and Jiangsu Federation of Trade Unions, and winners under the age of 35, by Communist Youth League Jiangsu Provincial Committee. Female winners who are in service can apply for honorary title to Jiangsu Provincial Women’s Federation following the procedure. Workplaces of the first prize winners will be titled as the cradle of talent in traditional skills.
