Foreign Trade of Zhangjiagang Hit 57.06 Billion in Q1

Foreign trade of Zhangjiagang City kept a good momentum in the first quarter of 2021 due to the effectiveness of economic stimulus plans of various countries and the increasing inoculation rate against Covid-19 that resulted in a global economic recovery and trade growth. According to the statistics from the Customs, foreign trade volume of Zhangjiagang in Q1 hit RMB 57.06 billion, up by 12.3% over Q1 in the previous year and up by 4.2% over Q1 in 2019. Export stood at RMB 25.82 billion, up by 20.2% over Q1 in 2020 and down by 1.8% over Q1 in 2019; while import registered RMB 31.24 billion, up by 6.6% over Q1 in 2020 and up by 9.8% over Q1 in 2019.

Foreign trade in Suzhou (a city of higher administrative level than Zhangjiagang) hit RMB 557.82 billion in the first quarter of 2021, up by 25.7% over Q1 in the previous year and up by 9.7% over Q1 in 2019. Zhangjiagang took up 10.2% of Suzhou’s total foreign trade volume. Suzhou’s export in Q1 of 2021 stood at RMB 328.02 billion, up by 33.7% over Q1 in 2020 and up by 7.4% over Q1 in 2019, and Zhangjiagang took up 7.9% of Suzhou’s export. Suzhou’s import hit RMB 229.8 billion, up by 15.8% over Q1 in 2020 and up by 13.1% over Q1 in 2019, and Zhangjiagang took up 13.6% of Suzhou’s import.
